WATCH the recording – Your Liver Health webinar
Your Liver Health & HIV webinar hosted by Positive Women Victoria focused on Non-alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD)
Special guests/panellists are: Dr David Iser, gastroenterologist and hepatologist from Melbourne, Emily Parsons, a woman living with HIV who has been diagnosed with NAFLD and Lia Purnomo, a dietitian who supports people living with HIV to maintain good liver health, especially for those diagnosed with NAFLD.
Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) develops through accumulation of fat in the liver. A growing body of research shows that people with HIV, particularly if they are overweight, are more likely to develop fatty liver disease. Researchers have found that both HIV-infection itself and combination antiretroviral therapy (cART) can contribute to the development of NAFLD in various ways. Only weight reduction, exercise and a healthy diet are considered to be an effective therapy for all patients with NAFLD.
