Meet PWVs new Peer Support Worker
11/05/2026
Melania Mugamu joins PWV as our new casual Peer Support Worker
Melania, whom some of you may already know, joins us as a highly experienced and passionate HIV peer support worker. She comes to us from Queensland Positive People, where she has worked as both a Peer Treatment Facilitator and Peer Support Worker for the past seven years, and commenced with PWV on Wednesday, 6 May.
Melania brings over two decades of HIV peer support experience across Australia and overseas. A strong advocate in this space, Melania is deeply committed to supporting women and addressing stigma and is dedicated to making a meaningful difference.
As a migrant woman originally from Zimbabwe and an Australian citizen, Melania offers valuable lived experience that strengthens our connection with the communities we serve.
Some members may remember Melania from her time volunteering with PWV in 2018, and we are delighted to welcome her back in this new capacity. Melania will be attending many of PWVs peer support events so you’ll have a chance to meet her.
Melania is also a member of the National Network of Women Living With HIV Australia and was one of 14 women featured in the 2026 National Day WLHIV campaign Her Story: Unique and United. The campaign shared what women from across Australia had to say about the benefits of peer support and combined advocacy, the significant differences for women living with HIV and the importance of early diagnosis.
