Menopause
Menopause happens around one year after your last period and is a natural process that all women experience, usually at around age 50 years, but can be earlier or later. Every woman’s experience of her menopause is different, and HIV does not affect the way in which you will experience menopause although some studies have shown women living with HIV are more likely to experience more severe menopausal symptoms. There are many types of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) that can be safely given to women living with HIV, but it is important you see a menopause specialist to discuss your treatment options and advise your HIV doctor.
